Dartigalongue Single Cask 1996 23yo...

Dartigalongue 1996 Single Cask 23yo (45.4%): A 23 year old single cask Armagnac from  the prestigious producer Dartidalongue distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2019. The cask has been selected by and bottled exclusively for Seelbach's. Dartidalongue is located in  the heart of Bas-Armagnac region in Nogaro and have been in business since 1838. As discussed previously on a brandy group on Facebook it is very rare to see single cask Armagnacs since most of the producers are focused on blends and vintages but this one looks like very much bottled from a single cask hence the cask number #429 printed on the front label.

Color: Orange blossom honey with oily and persistent legs. Always a good sign...

Nose: Latex gloves, alcohol soaked prunes, cooked Zante currants and golden raisin cookies. Rancio, cellar mold, beurre blanc sauce and white asparagus. Great nose...

Palate: Not as buttery and doughy I was expecting after the nose. Pecan brittles, cinnamon dusting and baklava syrup. Sticky toffee pudding and cloves. Quite thick and very even mouthfeel despite of its low abv. Over-brewed green tea, milk chocolate and maple candies. Very impressive brandy.

Finish: Medium long, mostly with baking spices and dried fruits. Cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Prunes and dried dates.

Overall: I do cook a lot beef stew-like dishes at home and love to add dried currants, raisins and other small sized dried fruits to them. The palate and finish reminded me a lot of those stews. It's meaty, spicy and fruity. It is indeed very complex and multi-layered for a single cask and therefore I have to admit that I feel like jumping on the same bandwagon with the other Armagnac nerds I know of who were thinking that this particular bottling might be filled from a marriage cask used to mingle different casks from the same vintage. It shows its age beautifully, very easy drinking and doesn't carry necessarily the oddities and sharp notes of a single cask. Nevertheless it's not that important what it is... It is a very good bottling and a total steal for 85 bucks. Loved it...
