Powers Three Swallow...

Powers Three Swallow (43.2%): The latest addition to Powers' permanent line-up is another single pot still whiskey but this time it is a no-age-statement expression unlike John's Lane 12yo and also priced lower. It is primarily matured in 2nd and 3rd fill ex-Bourbon barrels with the addition of a small portion of ex-Oloroso cask matured whiskeys and bottled non-chill filtered.

Color: Yellow gold, oaked Chardonnay color with very thin line around the glass like lacing very slowly forming legs running down.

Nose: NYC diner style banana cream pie, cold apple compote and freshly sliced Concorde pears. Gummi bears and Rowntrees fruit gums. Coconut milk, milk chocolate and Alphonso mangos.

Palate: Fried bananas, orange blossom honey and apple butter. Cinnamon sugar, almond paste and oatmeal cookies. Honey roasted nuts, cake batter, vanilla and sweet baking spices.

Finish: Medium long with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Caramel brittles and almond butter.

Overall: First time I tasted Three Swallow was last Christmas and I was already a few glasses of whiskey in at The Dead Rabbit in NYC... I do remember liking it a lot, I didn't scribble any notes down but made a mental note to buy a bottle when I have the chance. Well it took way longer than I thought to do that but better late than than ever. It is an absolutely brilliant whiskey... I never hid the fact that I am a big Powers fan but this whiskey really delivers a ton: It's sweet, creamy, fruity and spicy, amazingly well priced and so far I know it will be widely available. Looks like I just found a new staple for my whisky cabinet... Cannot recommend enough...
