Single Cask Nation Cooley 13yo (54.8%): Now, this bottle was my favorite expression of Single Cask Nation's recent line-up when we tasted almost all of them a couple of months ago here in Los Angeles. I put my order right away after the tasting, the bottles cleared the customs some time later and they finally started to ship them to the members just a few weeks ago. The cask #200201 is distilled in Ireland by Cooley distillery. It is a 13 years old single malt whiskey, was bought by a whisky broker in Scotland back in time and then found its way to US with the help of SCN after being bottled in May 2015. The refill Oloroso sherry butt yielded 252 bottles. If this whiskey is half as good as I remember I will have a blast at home today. Color: Light amber, heavily oaked Chardonnay. Very thin legs around the glass, Nose: Freshly sliced green D'Anjou pears, Cripps Pink apples and strawberries. Eucalyptus leaves, honey simple syrup and dandelion leaves. Old buckskin jacket and barley husk. Adding water shifts the nose to a much greener territory: Bitter greens, fresh green asparagus and malted barley. Stainless steel containers. Palate: Gosh... Bergamot, orange marmalade, clover honey and crunchy oatmeal cookies. A little tart, dry and chewy. Yummy... Adding a few drops of water works very well. Now it is smooth, thinner and velvety. More honey notes, vanilla and ground ginger. Candle wax, white wine vinegar and white pepper. Finish: Long with black and white pepper mix and more of those metallic notes, almost like a Sigg bottle. Overall: It is such a warming and comforting dram. It's beautifully tart and dry and fits perfect to fall months we are in... Again, I loved this whisky and I am so happy that I have a full bottle in front of me right now after I tasted it instead of an empty wee sample bottle. Cannot wait to brew Irish coffee with it. Congrats again boys, another great cask selection. Happy to be a SCN member...
