Old Particular Dailuaine 12 yo (57.6%): You might remember the Dailuaine from Cadenhead's I tasted a couple weeks ago. It was more or less love at first sight... After that experience I immediately started to look for another expression and found this very promising Old Particular K&L Wine Merchants exclusive bottling. The whisky is distilled in March 2007 and bottled in August 2019 from a single sherry butt which yielded 573 bottles at cask strength.
Color: Light amber, oak aged old white wine color with quick but thick and oily legs.
Nose: Sour cream, touch of sulphur and pomegranate molasses. Sulphur is at a level I can actually tolerate but I will let it air regardless for some time. It's much better now: Candied orange peel, ground ginger and ground coriander. Dried seaweed and dry malt. After a few drops of water: Lightly brewed green tea, fresh cut grass and raspberries. Dried leaves and aloe vera.
Palate: A touch hot at this abv but it's creamy and thick. Spiced Mexican hot chocolate, sweet paprika and apple skin. A couple drops of water reveals more. Quite savory actually... Green wood, cayenne pepper and bergamot peels. Aged soy sauce, dried papaya and Cajun seasoning. Tart... Salted butter and cream cheese on a toasted bagel.
Finish: Long with red pepper flakes, molasses and balsamic vinegar.

Overall: Completely different animal and I liked it... I would still prefer the ex-bourbon cask one from Cadenhead's if I had to choose between the two but I am quite happy with I have here. Many thanks to Josh Peters from The Whiskey Jug fame for sharing a sample from his own bottle with me before mine arrived.
