Kilkerran Cask Strength 8yo Batch No.3...

Kilkerran Cask Strength 8yo Batch No.3 (56.5%): Like I mentioned before here in US we are following regular batch releases of Scotch malt whiskies a little behind compared to other countries. So therefore even though Kilkerran's cask strength Batch No.4 is already available in other markets for some time the latest one we have here is Batch No.3. If you wish to take a peak at the reviews of previous batches you can use these links: Batch No.1 & Batch No.2. Batch No. 3 is matured exclusively in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 56.5% abv.

Color: Bright yellow gold, oaked wine wine with teardrops all around the glass slowly morphing into thick and oily legs.

Nose: Honeycrisp apples, white peaches and campfire. vanilla, lemon frosting and chalk. Fruity, mineral and coastal... After adding some water it gets more herbal: Tarragon, rosemary leaves and Meyer lemons. Dusty and dry...

Palate: Peat... This is the peatiest batch by far compared to previous other two batches. Pine needles, Genepi liquor and bread crust. Some newly charred oak barrel effect, burnt lemon and dried chamomiles. Charcoal and rock salt. With water: Lime wedges, olive brine and kumquats.

Finish: Long with dry soot, chalk and lemon zest. White pepper and ground ginger. Tongue tingling...

Overall: Well, what can I say? I am a fan... I am a huge fan... I don't know if they are managing somehow to make every single batch miraculously taste better than the previous one or if I am getting addicted more and more with every batch release but one thing is clear: I am a fan... Like I say all the time: If I ever owned a distillery my dream would be producing a whisky like Kilkerran.
