Compass Box No Name 2...

Compass Box No Name 2 (48.9%): They didn't have any reason to name the first release so why name the second one? Then "No Name 2" it is... The whisky contains 75.5% refill ex-sherry butt aged Caol Ila, 13.5% re-charred American oak hogshead aged Clynelish, 10.5% re-charred American oak hogshead aged Talisker and finally 0.5% Compass Box signature custom heavily toasted French oak cask aged Highland malt blend. The blend is bottled without any coloring agent and it's not chill-filtered. 8,802 bottles have been made available worldwide. The lead whiskymaker for this release was Jill Boyd.

Color: Vary pale lemon chiffon color persistent, oily and thick legs.

Nose: Unmistakably Caol Ila on the nose... Cold ocean spray, grilled lemon slices and band aids. Gas soaked rags, deck of a wooden fishing boat and iodine tincture. Fresh pineapple juice, passion fruit and guava... Incredibly coastal, tropical and medicinal. Remnants of a bonfire on the beach, wet sand and seaweed. Blooming orchards, especially pear flowers. I really don't want to stop nosing this now...

Palate: Wet soot, grilled lemon and grilled pineapple rings. Cream puffs, orange twist and white pepper. More bonfire on the beach references, wet forest ground and apple skins.

Finish: Goes forever with lemon zest, white pepper and ground ginger.

Overall: It's a stunner... Don't know what else to say except telling you to go out right now and grab a bottle while you still can. If you were following Compass Box releases long enough this whisky actually might remind you the Peat Monster 5th Anniversary Reserve bottling. Thanks to Scott Ellis the Western Region Manager of Compass Box for sending me this sample bottle. All the tasting notes and comments are my own...
