Foursquare Single Blended Rum 12yo (2005) (59.0): Like it's predecessor Single Blended Rum 2004 we tasted back in 2017 here on tire-bouchon (and liked quite a lot...) this bottle contains also a blend of rums distilled separately in pot and column stills in the distillery and matured exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels. The important difference this time is the resulting batch being 12 years old instead of 11.
Color: Polished copper with quite an orange shine and tiny but stationary tears all over the glass.

Nose: Ripe baby bananas, vanilla and brown sugar. Warm butter, balsa wood and super glue. Surprisingly there is no alcohol burn whatsoever despite it's very high abv. Adding a few drops of water helps regardless. It is more balanced now and also more topical. Fresh pineapple rings, passion fruit and salted caramel. Plastic lunch boxes and ginger molasses cookies.
Palate: Burnt plastic and molasses. Tar, cigar ash and dark Muscovado sugar. Water works even better on the palate: Milk chocolate, ginger snaps and eucalyptus. Cinnamon and nutmeg. Excellent...
Finish: Medium long with nutmeg, crystallized ginger and white pepper.
Overall: Although it noses and tastes like it will be fine without adding any water (which left me baffled to be honest...) it surely benefits from adding water a lot. And for my two cents don't count your drops when doing it. I added quite a bit frankly till I finally found my perfect spot. It's definitely more rounded and balanced than its predecessor. Don't know if it's because of the additional age or because of a different approach in blending but they are pretty different. Not saying better but different... Again both are excellent rums and I am not hiding the fact that I am a fan...
