Nose: Young Islay... Freshly sliced D'Anjou pears, crunchy dry malt and dry soot. Sweet peaty new make, sea spray and baby bananas. Orange marmalade, cake batter and tutti frutti gums. This whisky smells like a pub...
Palate: Not that sweet like the nose made me to get ready for. It is earthy, spicy and bitter actually... Dirt soil, cloves and cinnamon. Brown butter, allspice and ground coffee. Meyer lemon, charcoal and Maerzen beer.
Finish: Long with ground cardamom, coriander and white pepper.
Overall: An incredibly sweet nose followed by a surprisingly bitter palate and finish... It is a little underwhelming for my two cents. Maybe because I was expecting more from a bottling from Lagavulin or maybe I saw people comparing this expression to Lagavulin 8yo online... Probably just because of their ages being close to each other since I would take the 8yo over this whisky anytime, anywhere. Nowhere close... Anyhow, for the price I paid I have zero complaints, none... A great pub whisky, A perfect session malt to accompany a beautiful pint of ESB...
